If you're after an easy fall treat that contains no pumpkin or apple, these spiced pear fritters are for you!

I’m not here to hate on pumpkin or apple desserts at all… but I do feel like pears get left in the dust when it comes to fall baking. Pear recipes should 100% be just as popular if you ask me!

After one bite, these pear fritters will prove to you that they should be one of those recipes you look forward to making every fall – especially since they’re fairly easy to make and can be made in under an hour!

Why you’ll love these pear fritters

They’ve got a hint of spice. There are so many warm spices in this recipe. Ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg… everything you’d want in a fall-themed fritter!

They’re so easy to make. Making pear fritters is not as hard as it sounds! Combine the batter, toss in the pears, and fry in hot oil until they’re golden brown.

They can be topped with so many different things. I topped my pear fritters off with some homemade salted caramel sauce but you can also dust them with powdered sugar, drizzle maple syrup on them, or finish them off with a bit of cinnamon sugar!

Ingredients

To make these pear fritters, you’ll need:

  • Chopped pears – I used Bartlett pears for my pear fritters! Make sure that any pear you use for this recipe is on the firmer side – if they’re too juicy they’ll water down the batter.
  • Flour – All purpose flour works best – but use whatever flour you have on hand.
  • Vegetable oil – Used to fry your pear fritters. I’d recommend using canola or vegetable oil. Though coconut oil will also work.
  • Sugar – I used granulated sugar in my pear fritters! I’ll typically use brown sugar in my apple fritters and see no reason why you couldn’t swap it with the granulated sugar in this recipe!
  • Butter – Feel free to use unsalted butter in place of salted.
  • Eggs – Two eggs are needed in this pear fritter recipe!
  • Milk – Any milk works. I used oat milk for my pear fritters and the batter was just as consistent (and tasty) as it would have been with regular milk!
  • Spices – For these pear fritters I used ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and freshly grated nutmeg.
  • Almond and Vanilla extract – Both compliment these pear fritters so well!
  • Baking powder Helps the dough rise a bit.
  • Homemade salted caramel sauce – Here’s my recipe!

I’ll typically add some lemon juice or lemon zest to the batter when I make apple fritters – while I don’t think they’re needed in pear fritters, feel free to add them for additional flavor!

You can also add fresh ginger, sprinkle these pear fitters with powdered sugar, or drizzle a bit of maple syrup on them if you’re not a fan of homemade caramel sauce!

How to make pear fritters

Chop the pears and place them into a bowl. Feel free to place a paper towel on top of the pears to get any excess moisture from the chopped pears.

Whisk the flour, baking powder, and spices in a large bowl then set to the side.

In a separate large bowl, whisk the milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, melted butter, and eggs until combined.

Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and with a rubber spatula, fold the ingredients together. Then fold in the chopped pears until just incorporated.

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium high heat until the oil temperature reaches 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Scoop about 1/3 cups worth of the fritter batter into the oil and fry for about 3 minutes per side. Once they’re a deep golden brown color, transfer your pear fritters to a wire rack to cool. Repeat this step until all pear fritters have been fried.

Cool for about 10 minutes, then top the pear fritters with some homemade salted caramel sauce and enjoy!

Frequently asked questions

How long will my pear fritters last?

Pear fritters are best when they’re fresh, but you can store them in an airtight container for up to two days.

Anything longer than that and they’ll be a bit too soggy to enjoy!

How will I know when my fritters are cooked through?

You’ll know the fritters are cooked when the batter is golden brown in color!
