What do you get when you mix Cocoa Krispie cereal, marshmallows, white chocolate and candy eyes? Spooky chocolate rice krispie treats! They're easy to make and so delicious!

These spooky chocolate rice krispie treats are the best no-bake treat for all of you chocolate lovers out there! They’re perfect for kids (and adults) and take almost no time to make.

If you’re after a last minute Halloween treat to make, these chocolate rice krispie treats won’t disappoint!

Why you’ll love these spooky chocolate Rice Krispie treats

Completely customizable. During spooky season, I love making these chocolate rice krispie treats with white chocolate and candy eyes to make them look mummified. However… when it’s not spooky season, I’ll skip the white chocolate and enjoy plain or with added goodies (like mini chocolate chips or extra marshmallows).

They’re cute! I mean, almost too cute to eat if you ask me!! The little candy eyes and the mummified look… who would have thought mummies could be this cute?!

They’re easy to make. These little guys are one of the best no-bake dessert recipes out there. They take almost no time to set, too.

Ingredients

To make these chocolate rice krispie treats, you’ll need:

  • Cocoa Krispies – Whether you use name brand Cocoa Krispies or not, it doesn’t make much of a difference! Your chocolate rice krispie treats will taste the same either way 🙂
  • Marshmallows – Use mini marshmallows or big chunky marshmallows. The choice is up to you!
  • Vanilla extract – Want to turn a good rice krispie treat into one of the best rice krispie treat? Add a bit of vanilla extract for flavor.
  • Butter – Feel free to use unsalted butter if you want to control the amount of salt in your homemade chocolate rice krispies.
  • Sea salt – Adding a touch of sea salt to these chocolate rice krispie treats is one of my favorite ways to elevate them!
  • White chocolate – Needed for the mummified look.
  • Candy eyes – Also needed for the mummified look – these are completely optional though!
  • Cooking spray – You can use the butter wrappers to grease your baking dish too, but if you accidentally throw them away (or want the assurance that your rice krispie treats won’t stick), I’d recommend a good cooking spray instead.

That’s all you really need to make these spooky chocolate rice krispie treats! However, you can add in some mini chocolate chips (both milk chocolate chips and semi sweet chocolate chips work great), mini marshmallows, or whatever you have on hand that would pair well with a chocolate rice krispie treat!

Note: There are quite a few recipes out there that use plain Rice Krispies cereal and get that chocolate flavor by melting mini chocolate chips with the butter and marshmallow mixture, but it’s a step that isn’t necessary at all when you could buy Chocolate Rice Krispies!

How to make spooky chocolate Rice Krispies treats

First, line a baking dish with some parchment paper and lightly grease the parchment paper. Set to the side for now.

Melt butter in a large pot (or dutch oven) over medium heat. Then, add in the marshmallows and stir until the marshmallow mixture is completely melted. Remove from heat and add in the sea salt and vanilla extract.

Fold the Cocoa Krispies into the marshmallow mixture until each piece is coated with marshmallow. Transfer to your prepared baking dish and, with a rubber spatula, press the mixture down into the pan.

Let your chocolate rice krispie treats sit for 30 minutes to an hour, then gently remove from the baking dish and slice to your desired shape.

In a microwave safe bowl, add the white chocolate and melt in the microwave in 30 second intervals until completely melted. Dip the chocolate rice krispie treats into the white chocolate and place in the fridge to set for about 10 minutes.

Remove from the fridge and drizzle some additional white chocolate onto your chocolate rice krispies. Add some candy eyes and serve!
