Looking for a simple dessert that will blow your mind? Look no further than this rustic spiced plum galette with roasted hazelnuts!

If I asked you what your favorite dessert was, what would you say? Cakes? Cookies? Brownies, maybe? Those are all great answers – but I never hear anyone say that a galette is their favorite! My hopes are after this spiced plum galette recipe, that answer will change.

Especially because galettes are incredibly easy to make! All you need is some homemade galette dough (check out my recipe here) or store bought refrigerated pie crust. I truly believe that homemade galette dough is superior, however I’ll be the first to admit that when I’m in a time crunch (or just feeling lazy) I’ll make this spiced plum galette with store bought dough!

Whatever route you take, you’re sure to fall in love with this easy dessert.

Ingredients

plums

Correct measurements can be found at the bottom of the post, as always!

  • Homemade galette dough (refrigerated pie dough also works)
  • Plums
  • Sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • Flour
  • Vanilla extract
  • Fresh grated ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg

How to make this easy, spiced plum galette

For starters, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you plan on using refrigerated pie dough, gently unroll it and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

If you make my homemade galette dough, take it out of the fridge and let it rest on the counter for about 15 minutes. Then, use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to a 12 inch circle (about 1 inch thick). Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and move on to the next step!

preparing plum galette

Slice the plums and add them to a large bowl along with the sugar, fresh grated ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, flour, and vanilla extract.

Give everything a good stir and you’ll see that there’s a bit of juice at the bottom of the bowl. I highly recommend pouring the mixture into a strainer to get rid of any extra juice to avoid a soggy bottom, but it’s not necessary!

plum mixture

Spread this mixture evenly over the galette dough leaving about 2 inches from the edge. Fold the edge of the dough over the plum mixture. Some of the dough may overlap, which is completely okay!

Brush the edges with an egg wash and sprinkle some sugar on top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

Transfer to a wire rack and let cool, then serve with roasted hazelnuts or ice cream!

Plum Galette

A tip on roasting hazelnuts…

While the galette is cooling on the wire rack, I roast my hazelnuts in the oven at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes. Once roasted, I immediately take them off of the baking sheet and wrap them in a dish towel to let cool for 5 minutes.

This step is completely optional, but I do recommend trying it one day!

  • Total Time: 50 Minutes
  • Yield: 8 Servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • Homemade galette dough (refrigerated pie dough also works)
  • 1 lb plums
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 TBSP flour
  • 2 TSP cornstarch
  • 1 TSP each: vanilla extract, fresh grated ginger, cinnamon, & nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. If you’re using refrigerated pie dough, gently unroll it and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If you’re using my homemade galette dough recipe, check recipe notes.
  2. Slice the plums and add them to a large bowl along with the sugar, fresh grated ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, flour, and vanilla extract. You may notice that as you mix, a lot of juice gathers at the base of the bowl. I like to strain it (to prevent a soggy bottom) but if you find that there isn’t much juice, you don’t have to do that!
  3. Spread the plum mixture evenly over the galette dough leaving about 2 inches from the edge. Fold the edge of the dough over the plum mixture. Some of the dough may overlap, which is completely okay!
  4. Brush the edges with an egg wash and sprinkle some sugar on top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool, then serve with roasted hazelnuts or ice cream! Check recipe notes on how to roast hazelnuts ◡̈
