If you’re after a classic BBQ chicken pizza, look no further!
While I love nearly all forms of pizza (especially my hot honey pepperoni pizza), BBQ pizza has a special place in my heart. I used to order BBQ chicken pizza with my grandparents after work at least once a month – it was a special treat we loved to share!
My BBQ chicken pizza recipe has quickly become a favorite in my household and I’m excited to share it with you!
Why you’ll love this BBQ chicken pizza
It’s so flavorful. The tangy BBQ sauce, mozzarella cheese, crispy pizza crust… there are so many elements in this dish to love! It’ll become one of your favorite pizza recipes!
You can use any kind of BBQ sauce you want. Feel free to adjust this recipe to incorporate your favorite BBQ sauce!
It’s fairly simple to make. Whenever I make homemade BBQ chicken pizza, I use my crockpot BBQ chicken. If you opt to do the same (and are really looking to simplify this recipe), all you’d need to do is purchase some store bought pizza dough and top it with crockpot BBQ chicken, cheese, and additional toppings! That takes this recipe from easy to so easy anyone could do it!

Ingredients
To make homemade BBQ chicken pizza, you’ll need:
- Homemade pizza dough – Making your own pizza dough is easy and delicious! If you’re after a homemade pizza dough recipe, here’s mine!
- Cheese – I like to use both mozzarella cheese and gouda cheese whenever I make this BBQ chicken pizza. Feel free to use whatever type of cheese you have on hand!
- BBQ chicken – So, for this BBQ chicken pizza recipe, I use my crockpot BBQ chicken recipe. If you don’t have time to make that, I recommend picking up a rotisserie chicken and some BBQ sauce from the store!
- Red onion – Optional but recommended! The red onion gives your BBQ chicken pizza a delicious bite.
- Cilantro – Again, optional but highly recommended!
And that’s really all you need!
You could be fancy and make your own barbecue sauce too! But that’s not really necessary and I’d only recommend doing it if you plan on making a few BBQ inspired meals (as you’ll have a lot of BBQ sauce leftover).
How to make BBQ chicken pizza
Start by making the homemade pizza dough and homemade pizza sauce (both recipes are linked above in the ingredients section).
After the dough has been made (and doubled in size), you can start making the BBQ chicken pizza!
Preheat your oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit and place a pizza stone in the oven while the oven heats.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the pizza dough out to your desired thickness. Then, gently place the pizza dough on a wooden pizza peel and lightly drizzle it with olive oil.
Top the pizza dough with the BBQ chicken, cheese, red onion, and cilantro. Once you’re satisfied with how the pizza looks, gently slide the pizza off of the wooden pizza peel onto a pizza stone that’s been heating in the oven.
Bake for 15 minutes or until the crust is lightly golden brown in color and the cheese has completely melted. Remove your pizza from the oven and add some additional cilantro to the top of it. If you’d like, add some additional BBQ sauce to the top as well!
Remove your pizza from the pizza stone and enjoy!
Quick note: Like I said in the section above, I’ll use my crockpot BBQ chicken on top of this pizza. However, buying a rotisserie chicken will work just as well. For this method, simply shred the rotisserie chicken and add a layer of BBQ sauce to the pizza dough. Top with the chicken, additional sauce, and add the rest of the toppings as you see fit!

Frequently asked questions

Can I use raw chicken on my BBQ chicken pizza?
No! Using raw chicken is a bad idea as it won’t have enough time to cook while in the oven.
Always use pre cooked chicken when making BBQ chicken pizza.
